Transportation Task Group
In the United States, LonWorks is both a de facto and a de jure standard for the freight railroads and the rail-transit industry, and it is also widely used throughout the world. In the freight world, it is defined by the AAR and in rail-transit, it is defined by the IEEE. However, to fully realize the benefits of LonWorks technology, suppliers, buyers, and specifiers within the rail industry must work together so that interoperable products and systems become the rule and not the exception. With a well-defined set of processes and procedures, and a record of success of developing interoperable systems in other industries, the LonMark Transportation Group is confident that it can facilitate the movement to interoperable systems in rail transportation.
Other modes of transportation (beyond rail) are also the domain of this task group.
